Elon Musk is an ass, but you're all being ridiculous
I honestly don’t understand how anyone alive doesn’t spend as much time as I do thinking about how absolutely ridiculous human beings are. The irrationality we see from our fellow homo sapiens is mind-blowing. Then, with the popularity of social media, we get to see that irrationality amplified to astronomical proportions.
I’ve been extremely vocal about how douchey I think Elon Musk is, but the disdain for Musk has made people act absolutely ridiculous.
I guess I’ll start by pointing out the silliness of the Elon Musk stans who still think he’s a genius self-made billionaire even though there’s mountains of information explaining how he’s just a lucky rich kid. Like, spending $44 billion on a company that doesn’t make money, trying to back out of the deal dozens of times and then acting like you’re happy with the decision doesn’t sound too genius-like to me.
Recently, the Intercept wrote a fantastic piece about how left-wing voices are being silenced on Twitter as Musk is being told who should be banned by morons like Andy Ngo and other grifters on the right.
Aside from that, Elon “free speech first amendment” Musk has owned the company for about a month and has done nothing but been the arbiter of what free speech is allowed. Yes, it’s a private company and he can do whatever he wants. But don’t pretend he’s some free speech absolutist as he clearly decides what free speech is and isn’t allowed.
I’m specifically thinking of his decision to not let Alex Jones back on the platform. I despise Jones, but Musk publicly tweeting “My firstborn child died in my arms. I felt his last heartbeat. I have no mercy for anyone who would use the deaths of children for gain, politics or fame.” doesn’t sound like absolute free speech to me.
So now, let’s get into the ridiculousness of my fellow Musk haters.
I’ll take a transparent asshole over a shady liberal any day
Yesterday, I’m watching Philip DeFranco with my girlfriend when Phil covers the story about how COVID has led to more people working from home and office buildings being abandoned. Now that less offices are occupied, there are discussions of converting them into housing.
First off, if this happens, this housing won’t be affordable, and you’re crazy if you think so. Some of the areas they’re talking about are insanely expensive cities like San Francisco.
But then, the story turns to Elon Musk and how he wants to turn empty Twitter offices into bedrooms, and people are losing their shit.
In case you missed it, since Elon Musk made the terrible decision to spend $44 billion on Twitter and then laying off a ton of people, he’s demanding people work insane hours so he can attempt to make some money back. Now, people are furious with Musk for demanding long hours and wants to make sleeping spaces in the offices so people can basically live there and work non-stop.
Sounds terrible, right?
Well, I hate to break it to you, but this has been going on forever at your favorite companies run by leftists. The only difference is that they disguise it as just “trying to make employees more comfortable at work”.
Many years ago, before I met my lovely girlfriend of six years, I was seeing this one gal for a couple months. She was the head of activities at Zappos, which is located here in Las Vegas. On one of our first dates, she was working late, so we grabbed a bite to eat near the Zappos headquarters, and after, she brought me over to take me on a tour.
The place was amazing. The campus is huge and they had so many cool things like game rooms, a place where you can chill and take a nap, a café, a mini golf course on the roof where you could also work and chill. It was amazing. There was even a special section of open office space where people could bring their pets to work.
Mind you that it was like 8 or 9 pm when we went, and there were people still working. We kept running into people who were working late. And as I mentioned, the girl I was seeing was working late as well.
I remember when Musk sent out the memo demanding people work insane hours, his fans were sharing TikToks of the entitled liberals who worked at Twitter giving tours of the offices. The Twitter offices were similar to Zappos where they “take such good care of their employees”.
Sorry, but you need to wake up and smell the capitalism.
These “super progressive” tech companies aren’t doing this to take care of their employees. They’re making the workplace as comfortable as possible so people don’t want to go home because everything is at work. This means people are more likely to work insanely long hours to make the company billions of dollars each year.
Do you think they have the nap room so someone can come in for a typical nine-to-five, just take an hour nap and leave on time? Do you think these companies have a ton of events and make everyone “feel like family” for the benefit of the employees?
Again, take a sip out of your nice warm cup of capitalism.
This is all 100% in the interest of the company. Humans are wired for reciprocity. Whether it’s making the offices have more stuff that make people feel obligated to work longer or they hold events to make everyone feel more connected, it’s to get people to work longer hours and feel more loyal to the company.
So, would I rather have Elon Musk just be fully transparent that he wants to do this to get people to work more or would I rather have some fake progressive lie about their intentions?
Musk is an ass, but I hate being lied to, so I’ll take the transparency.
Won’t somebody think of the poor animals?!
I decided to write this after seeing this Rolling Stone article shared on Twitter that’s titled Elon Musk’s Brain Implant Company Probed for Animal Abuse: Report. Here’s an excerpt from the short article:
“Reports emerged in February that more than a dozen primates died or were euthanized as a result of Neuralink’s research, but that number may have only been the tip of a macabre iceberg. According to sources and records reviewed by Reuters, the total number of animals killed in the course of Neuralink’s research since 2018 is likely around 1,500, including around 280 pigs, sheep, and primates. The company has also conducted research using rodents.”
In case you didn’t know, I’m a vegetarian. Most people don’t know this because I only bring it up when necessary. Believe me when I say that I really don’t care if you eat meat. I was a meat eater for most of my life and stopped for health reasons about five years ago.
Although I don’t care if you do eat meat, I do care about hypocrisy. And one of my favorite past times is watching the dissonance meat eaters experience on a daily basis when the topic of animal cruelty comes up.
One of my favorite things in the world is the website and Twitter account of Elwood’s Organic Dog Meat. It’s a satirical account run by one or more non-meat eaters that exists to showcase how ridiculous meat eaters can be.
They post a lot of comments from people who are absolutely furious about their fake service. Then, the account posts hilarious replies that you’d hear from your typical meat eater.
But I’m getting off track.
The point is that Elon haters are finding any and everything to showcase how he’s an awful human being. While he might be just that, I guarantee the majority of people sharing this Rolling Stone article are meat eaters.
I think it’s extremely interesting that we have “ethical guidelines” to killing and torturing animals. If anything, these are merely rules that make people sleep better at night. Killing, testing and torturing animals is killing, testing and torturing animals. We induce needless suffering on animals for our personal gain, and that’s just the reality.
So, do I care that Elon may have killed a ton of pigs, sheep and primates? Sure. But I also care that 200 million animals are slaughtered each day for human consumption and nobody really cares.
Most people don’t “want to see how the sausage is made” (literally). And hell, I don’t weather. Whenever I stumble across how animals are treated on factory farms, it’s brutal. They’re kept in tiny spaces where they can barely move and live their life that way until they’re killed so people can eat them. That’s only part of what’s done to them. It’s far worse than I care to explain in this piece.
On a daily basis, I see meat eaters arbitrarily decide which animals are owed dignity, respect and a right to life. We run around playing God every day with the life of various animals, and it’s one of the silliest aspects of human nature.
So, if I don’t care that people eat meat, what do I want? I haven’t given it much thought, but I think I’d be content with any time a meat eater did some moral grandstanding about the mistreatment of very specific animals, they added, “But I eat meat, so I guess I’m kind of terrible too.”
And don’t get me wrong, I’m a terrible human being as well, but I’ll scream it from the rooftops. I’m sure there are plenty of products that I use that are the result of slave labor from some country I’ve never heard of. I try to do better where possible and stop using companies once I get out of my strategic ignorance.
But it’s beyond strategic ignorance when it comes to the grandstanding of animal cruelty. Everyone knows exactly what’s going on but still choose when they’re going to throw hate at anyone or culture that does something to an animal they like.
So, that’s about all I have to say on this topic.
I haven’t written anything in a while but just wanted to put on your radar that there are plenty of things to hate Musk for, but be a bit more aware of which things you’re deciding to get mad about. We live in a capitalist society that’s filled with a majority of meat eaters. Musk tyring to force people to work more hours and killing animals is par for the course. If you’re going to get mad at him for this stuff, there are thousands more names to add to your list.
