Weekly Non-Fiction Reading List 1.9.23
This week, I finished two books from some amazing authors. I’ve been insanely busy lately with some other projects, but I managed to squeeze in one book about the science of self-awareness and one about the victim mentality in America. Enjoy!
Each of the links to the books are affiliate links, so if you use my link to purchase any of these books, some comes back to support what I do (and it also helps fund my reading habit).
Insight: Why We're Not as Self-Aware as We Think, and How Seeing Ourselves Clearly Helps Us Succeed at Work and in Life by Tasha Eurich
I’m always looking for good books on self-awareness because it’s by far the most important characteristic we all need but usually lack. Once I started reading this, I realized I already read it, so this was my second read. It’s a great book, but there are some studies she references that I’m a bit skeptical of and would have to look into further. This book is mainly for business people when dealing with others and making decisions, but everyone can benefit from a lot of topics discussed in this book.
Nation of Victims: Identity Politics, the Death of Merit, and the Path Back to Excellence by Vivek Ramaswamy
Although Vivek is regularly a pundit on Fox News and is somewhat well known, I don’t think this man gets nearly enough credit. I loved his last book Woke Inc and thought he’d swing and miss on this one, but I was so wrong. I absolutely loved this book. And in case you didn’t know, I’m a hardcore, Bernie-loving leftist.
This book is about the victim mentality that so many Americans are taking. And by saying that, you may think this book is just about us whiny libs, but it’s not. Vivek takes quite a few opportunities and entire chapters to take aim at his fellow conservatives. He discusses how the election denial, the banning of books and other topics are the right’s version of playing the victim.
As a recovering addict who had to become an underdog, I could relate to a lot of what Vivek writes about, and I can’t recommend this book enough.
If you enjoyed this post, it’d mean a lot to me if you shared it. Forward it in an email, share it on social media, or whatever suits your fancy.
